CHIEF EXECUTIVE
Stew became Mercury’s Chief Executive in September 2024. He joined Mercury in 2021 as the Executive General Manager, Generation, and was responsible for the management, operation and maintenance of our electricity generation assets.
Before joining Mercury, Stew was the Chief Executive at New Zealand Aluminium Smelters Ltd and has over 25 years’ experience working for industrial energy customers in mining, minerals processing and manufacturing in Australia, New Zealand and Africa.
Stew has a Chemical Engineering degree from Auckland University and an MBA from Melbourne University. With a proven track record of success in leading large, complex businesses, he is well placed to ensure Mercury capitalises and builds on its strong platform for growth.
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Richard oversees Mercury’s financial strategy and operations.
Richard joined Mercury in 2025 bringing over 25 years of experience in finance and primary industries. Before joining Mercury, he was the CFO of Zespri International Ltd and held roles at Ballance Agri-Nutrients, HSBC, Credit Suisse, and Westpac. Richard holds a degree in Finance and excels in corporate finance, M&A, business transformation, and strategy development.
CHIEF STRATEGY AND TRANSFORMATION OFFICER
Craig leads the development and execution of Mercury’s enterprise-wide strategy for long-term, sustainable growth. His role integrates strategic planning, business transformation, and technology to drive the company’s future success.
Craig joined Mercury in 2021. He has extensive leadership experience in retail, wholesale markets, and trading, with proven success in driving strategic growth. He holds academic qualifications from University of Canterbury and MIT Sloan.
CHIEF PEOPLE EXPERIENCE OFFICER
Fiona is responsible for leading strategies that support the future of work and our intergenerational diverse workforce to deliver on our strategic goals.
Fiona joined Mercury from Trustpower in 2022 via our acquisition of the Trustpower retail business. She was with Trustpower for 26 years, has vast electricity and telecommunications industry knowledge and extensive experience in the delivery of customer-centric and technology outcomes.
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER - GENERATION
Kevin oversees the safe operation and maintenance of Mercury's electricity generation assets.
Kevin joined Mercury in 2025, bringing over three decades of experience in large industry, focusing on operational excellence, risk management, and safety leadership. Most recently, Kevin was General Manager (Operations) supporting multiple Rio Tinto Sites and has previously been General Manager of operations in both Queensland and Tasmania. Kevin strives to build high performing teams and to deliver safe, quality outcomes.
CHIEF SUSTAINABILITY OFFICER
Catherine leads Mercury’s strategy to embed sustainability into the heart of Mercury's business, aligning environmental, social, and governance performance with long term value creation.
As part of this role she is responsible for sustainability, corporate affairs, stakeholder engagement, and environmental management. Catherine joined Mercury in 2025, bringing over 30 years of experience in the energy and legal sectors, including executive level roles at Contact Energy and Manawa Energy. She has deep expertise across corporate affairs functions as well as sustainability and consenting, strategy and risk management.
EXECUTIVE GM WHOLESALE
Tim is responsible for managing Mercury’s overall electricity portfolio with specific responsibility for all wholesale market activities and sales to large commercial and industrial customers.
Tim joined Mercury in 2005 and has held a range of roles across the business including GM Wholesale and Head of Treasury and Investor Relations.
EXECUTIVE GM GENERATION DEVELOPMENT
Matt leads Mercury’s generation development and is responsible for planning, developing and delivering new renewable generation.
Matt joined Mercury in 2022 and is an infrastructure professional and engineer with 20 years’ experience developing and delivering large and complex utility infrastructure in the US and NZ.
